International Telco
CarbonRiver were commissioned to footprint the Telco’s solution by service, by product, by location for 120+ countries. Advice was given on how to achieve a differentiated sustainability proposition for the £100+m contract, and CarbonRiver generated a plan to reduce energy consumption and embedded emissions , that enabled differentiated environmental targets to be set
The outcomes delivered an equipment replacement framework to assist decision making and a bid strategy for the contract was altered to feature sustainability messaging, that also led to lower delivery costs. Our client received praise from their client for taking a lead in sustainability, and has adopted the CarbonRiver approach for subsequent tenders
“I would like to see the re-use of our sustainability approach in other bids and opportunities as I feel we developed some ground breaking material, this is clearly an area of growing importance to government.“

Make Wood Work
CarbonRiver mapped the emissions associated with one tonne of timber through the wood panel production process and the biomass energy production process. The net emissions of wood panel production and biomass were analysed over a period out to 2120 before a combined process of timber being used in wood panels and then in biomass was also mapped out. The striking results are now a part of a multi-faceted, national govt. lobbying campaign.
Working with CarbonRiver to analyse the comparative carbon lifecycles of 2 industries competing for a finite resource proved to be both rewarding and enlightening.
“The detailed analytical work undertaken by the CarbonRiver team highlighted some stark choices for the best environmental use of the UK’s scarce timber resource.“
